Two New Programs Launched
Last week, Intergy launched two new energy efficiency programs for San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) as part of the 2006-2008 cycle.
The Healthcare Energy Efficiency Program (HealthcareEEP) is a comprehensive resource program for acute care hospitals and related medical office buildings, some of California's major energy users. This segment is a vital component to the critical services infrastructure, and is the second most energy-intensive sector served by the utilities. Energy costs may represent 40-60 percent of a hospital's total facility operating budget; however, this comprises only 1-3 percent of total institutional costs. This combination of the healthcare fields' high energy use and lagging involvement with energy efficiency creates significant energy savings potential.
The program, which is being implemented by Intergy and partners Putnam Price Group, Mazzetti and Associates, California Hospital Association (CHA), and California Society of Healthcare Engineering (CSHE), has been extremely successful as a Southern California Edison program. The partners are anticipating similar results in SDG&E's service area based on early indications. HealthcareEEP will identify, audit, and coordinate implementation of energy efficiency equipment in medical office buildings and acute care facilities, and will deliver over 3.16 million gross kWh.
Intergy's second launched plan, the Lodging Energy Efficiency Program Hotel(LodgingEEP), serves the hospitality sector, particularly large hotels, which offer substantial energy savings. Large hotels use significant amounts of energy to heat water, and a variety of comprehensive approaches are available to improve efficiencies. The program focuses on implementing a comprehensive set of energy efficiency technologies to the hospitality sector. The LodgingEEP is a partnership with the California Hotels and Lodging Association (CHLA), the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), and Synergy Companies. LodgingEEP is projected to deliver 1.1 million gross kWh, 280 kW, and 200,000 therms in energy savings.
