EEGA  Energy Efficiency Groupware Application - EEGA version 4

InfoWorld magazine 2004 EEGA version 4 , the reporting and document management software used to track California's energy efficiency projects, has just been released.

EEGA or Energy Efficiency Groupware Application is used by the California Public Utility Commission to control documents, manage workflow, store data, and do analytical reporting. EEGA is maintained by Intergy and used by the CPUC to track information from 190 energy efficiency programs across California, and to create comprehensive progress reports with thousands of data items and supporting documents.

The programs report monthly and the web-based application handles the complex workflows related to documentation, reporting, and communication. The software tracks energy efficiency programs and communicates key program performance statistics accurately and concisely to a variety of users including the CPUC, the state Legislature, program managers, and the public.

The first version of EEGA was conceived by the CPUC and written in 2002. Intergy took over the maintenance and development of EEGA in July 2005. Version 4 includes several improvements, according to Wayne Hauck, Intergy senior IT manager and EEGA lead. “Version 4 is more flexible and user friendly,” Hauck said. “It makes submitting the workbooks easier and provides more options for both the person submitting the files and the contract manager who is reading the reports.”

Other new features include the elimination of writing to Excel on the server, which Hauck says will make the program easier. Users can now skip a month's report, and submit multiple months of data. They can also submit multiple workbooks in a row, and there's a process to have a change in a monthly task, with documentation, become a change request. The new version of EEGA also includes a series of user alerts that will extensively guide the submission process.

EEGA offers a user-friendly, comprehensive solution that simplifies the handling of a variety of tasks. “The software provides a unique and creative information technology solution to the energy industry,” Hauck said. Intergy is currently working with the CPUC on development and release of EEGA for the 2006-2008 energy efficiency programs.

InfoWorld magazine selected EEGA as one of the 100 most innovative IT solutions for the year 2003.
