EEGA is an excellent example of Intergy's ability to provide unique and creative information technology solutions to the energy industry. EEGA, a document and proposal management system was selected by InfoWorld magazine as one of the 100 most innovative IT solutions for the year 2003.
EEGA was developed for the California Public Utilities Commission's Energy Division as a solution to their reporting and document management problem. They needed more control of their documents and better workflow management, data storage, and analytical reporting capabilities to assist in their regulatory oversight responsibilities. The result was EEGA, an efficient web-based software solution that is used by CPUC to track information from 190 energy efficiency programs across California, and to create comprehensive progress reports with thousands of data items and supporting documents. The programs report monthly and EEGA handles the complex workflows related to documentation, reporting, and communication. EEGA solved a variety of the Energy Division's problems including how to exchange emails with large attachments effectively; how to monitor and approve workflow while creating an audit trail; and how to consolidate data spread over thousands of documents for analytical reporting.
The EEGA users including the CPUC, the publicly-owned utilities, and program implementers are spread throughout the state. They have to meet various regulatory reporting requirements and they possess varying degrees of computing skills. In response EEGA offers a user-friendly, comprehensive solution that simplifies the handling of a variety of tasks.
EEGA allows easy and secure access through web interfaces, and automates information flow and business processes. Process steps are documented and next steps, such as receipt notification, are automatically triggered. This reduces the effort to monitor and track progress, eliminates problems related to possible mishaps, and allows users to effectively manage workflow.
Additional key benefits of EEGA include:
- Creates standard mechanisms to securely submit, verify, approve, and record program plans and reports;
- Organizes a repository of documents and information for energy efficiency programs in a searchable format;
- Creates a common platform with customized functionality for users that are geographically dispersed; and
- Provides a scalable, flexible architecture that adheres to standards to accommodate future requirements and technology developments.
- Provides a user-friendly solution that simplifies handling of tasks.
EEGA allows for the extraction and storage of critical information from individual documents and uses a relational database. The Energy Division uses EEGA to track energy efficiency programs and communicate key program performance statistics accurately and concisely to a variety of users including the CPUC, the state Legislature, program managers, and the public. EEGA helps the commission produce analysis-based reports, support long-term decision-making strategy, and achieve the state's energy savings goals.
EEGA provides significant benefits by helping streamline regulatory workflow processes for energy efficiency programs. Additionally, many users can access, share, and analyze extensive program tracking information to further refine energy efficiency programs and realize greater energy savings.
